How to Get to EUR: Transportation, Parking and Connections with Rome City Center

Visiting EUR is extremely easy thanks to an efficient and well-organized public transportation network. This neighborhood, born from modern urban planning, enjoys excellent connections with Rome's historic center, as well as with outlying areas, airports and the sea.

Getting to EUR by Metro: The Fastest Option

Line B: Three Strategic Stops

Metro Line B (blue) is the most convenient and fastest way to reach EUR from any part of Rome served by the metro. The neighborhood has three stops, each strategically positioned to access different areas:

• Magliana - The first stop when entering the neighborhood from the north. Ideal for reaching Palazzo dello Sport and the commercial area and the Olympic Velodrome. From here you are a few minutes' walk from Palazzo dello Sport.
• EUR Palasport - The central stop, perfect if your main goal is the sports complex or the office district. Also convenient for quickly reaching the EUR lake.
• EUR Fermi - The last stop on Line B, the closest to the heart of the neighborhood's monumental area. Get off here to visit the Square Colosseum, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the main museums and Piazza Marconi.

Travel Times from the Metro

Connections are fast and frequent. Here is how long it takes from the main stations:

From Termini: 20-25 minutes to EUR Fermi, with a transfer at Termini if arriving from other lines. Trains run every 5-7 minutes during the day, every 10-12 minutes in the evening.

From Colosseo: 15-18 minutes to the EUR stops. Very convenient if you are visiting the Imperial Forums and want to move on to the modern neighborhood.

From Circo Massimo: 12-15 minutes. This stop is near the Aventine and the Garden of Oranges, which are great to combine with a visit to EUR.

From Piramide: 10 minutes. From here you can also take the Roma-Lido train to Ostia, creating an itinerary that combines EUR, Ostia Antica and the sea.

Hours and Frequency

Metro B operates every day with these hours:

• Weekdays: 5:30 AM - 11:30 PM
• Friday and Saturday: 5:30 AM - 1:30 AM (extended evening service on weekends)

• Line 714: Connects Termini with EUR via Via Ostiense. High frequency, ideal for those arriving by train at Termini who do not want to use the metro.
• Line 671: From Piazza Venezia through Trastevere to EUR. Perfect if you want to combine a visit to the historic center with the rationalist neighborhood.
• Line 763: Connects various parts of EUR with Cinecitta and the Tuscolano neighborhood. Useful if you are staying in the eastern part of Rome.

From Fiumicino Airport: 25-30 minutes by direct regional train. Much cheaper than the Leonardo Express (costs around 8 euros versus 14 euros to Termini). Trains depart every 15-30 minutes during the day.

From Tiburtina: 20 minutes. Convenient if you arrive on high-speed trains that stop at Tiburtina rather than Termini.

From Ostiense: 8 minutes. This station is well connected by metro and bus, making it a useful interchange hub.

Magliana station is modern, clean and safe. Outside you will find local bus stops and taxis. Magliana metro stop is a 5-minute walk away.

Advantages of the Regional Train

The regional train offers some advantages over other means of transport:

• Speed: no traffic, precise schedules
• Comfort: spacious seats, air conditioning, luggage space
• Affordable cost with the BIRG ticket (daily regional integrated ticket)

Getting to EUR by Car

Main Roads

If you are traveling by car, EUR is easily reachable via several major roads:

Via Cristoforo Colombo: The main artery connecting central Rome with EUR and continuing toward Ostia. It enters the neighborhood from the north and runs all the way through it. Be aware of traffic during peak hours.

Via Laurentina: Connects EUR with the Laurentino neighborhood, Ciampino airport and the southern part of Rome. Less busy than Colombo, it is a good alternative.

Via dell'Oceano Atlantico: Runs along the western side of EUR, connecting it with the Torrino and Spinaceto areas. Useful for avoiding traffic in the main neighborhood thoroughfare.

Via del Mare: Arrives from the Rome-Fiumicino motorway and leads directly into EUR from the west. Great if you are arriving from outside Rome.

From the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA)

The GRA ring road encircles Rome and is the reference point if you are arriving from other cities. For EUR:

Exit 26 - Via Pontina: Follow signs for EUR; you will enter from the south via Via Pontina, which becomes Via Cristoforo Colombo.

Parking at EUR: Where to Leave Your Car

Paid Attended Parking Lots

EUR offers numerous parking lots, both surface and underground. Prices are reasonable compared to the historic center.

Palazzo dei Congressi Parking: Large, attended, right in the heart of the monumental neighborhood. Approximate rate: 2 euros/hour, 15-20 euros per day. Access via Viale Shakespeare.

EUR Fermi Parking (near the metro): Convenient for park and ride - leave your car here and continue by metro to the center. Competitive rates for all-day parking.

PalaLottomatica Parking: Large parking lot used during events and concerts, but also available for regular parking. During concerts the price increases (10-15 euros); on normal days it is very affordable.

Shopping Center Parking: Roma Shopping District offers free parking for customers (with receipt). Convenient if you plan to shop in addition to visiting the neighborhood.

Paid Parking (Blue Lines)

Blue-line areas are paid parking from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Sunday and holidays are generally free. Rate: approximately 1-1.50 euros/hour.

You will find blue lines along Via Cristoforo Colombo, Via dell'Oceano Atlantico and side streets. Use the EasyPark or MyCicero app to pay directly from your phone, so you avoid searching for parking meters and can extend your stay remotely.

Free Parking (White Lines)

White lines indicate free parking, but they are rarer in EUR. You will mainly find them in the peripheral residential areas of the neighborhood. If you have time to look, you can save entirely on parking.

Tip: The streets around the EUR lake have some white zones, but they fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

ZTL Zones and Access

EUR has NO ZTL zones (Limited Traffic Zones), so you can drive freely without permits or risk of fines. This is a huge advantage compared to the historic center, where ZTL cameras fine thousands of tourists every year.

Getting to EUR from the Airports

From Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci)

From Ciampino

Ciampino airport is closer to EUR than Fiumicino.

• Option 1 - Bus + Metro: Terravision or SitBus to Metro Anagnina (Line A), then transfer at Termini for Line B toward Laurentina, get off at EUR. Total: approximately 60 minutes, 6-8 euros.
• Option 2 - Direct Bus: Some bus services connect Ciampino with EUR directly, but they are not very frequent. Check schedules in advance.
• Option 3 - Taxi: Approximately 30 euros, 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Makes sense if there are 3-4 of you.

EUR - Historic Center Connections

To the Colosseum and Imperial Forums

Direct Metro B: 15 minutes from EUR Fermi to Colosseo. Simple, fast, affordable.

Bus 714 or 791: Runs via Via Ostiense and arrives near the Colosseum. Slower (30-40 minutes) but lets you see the city.

To Piazza di Spagna and Trevi Fountain

Metro B + Metro A: From EUR Fermi to Termini (Line B), transfer to Line A toward Battistini, get off at Spagna. Total: 35-40 minutes. From Spagna to Trevi Fountain is a 10-minute walk.

To the Vatican and St. Peter's

Metro B + Bus: Metro to Piramide, then tram 8 to Trastevere, then bus 23 or 280 to St. Peter's. Alternatively, metro to Termini, transfer to Line A to Ottaviano, 5-minute walk to St. Peter's Square.

Faster alternative: Metro to Circo Massimo, then bus 715 or a 25-minute walk through the Aventine (beautiful).

To Trastevere

Bus 671: Direct from EUR to Trastevere, passing through Rome's most authentic neighborhood. Approximately 30 minutes.

Metro + Tram: Metro B to Piramide, then tram 8 to Trastevere. 25-30 minutes total.

EUR - Ostia and the Sea Connections

The Roma-Lido: The Railway to the Sea

The Roma-Lido uses the same ticket as the metro (1.50 euros). Trains every 15 minutes during the day. A trip to Ostia is perfect if you feel like some beach time during your Roman stay.

To Cinecitta and Tuscolano

Metro B: Direction Rebibbia, 15-20 minutes. Cinecitta is home to the film studios (Cinecitta World) and the Roma Est shopping center.

To Testaccio

On Foot

EUR is a neighborhood well suited to walking, but distances should not be underestimated. The boulevards are very wide and buildings are spread far apart. To visit the entire neighborhood on foot, allow at least 3-4 hours and several kilometers.

Pros: You can admire the architecture at your own pace, take photos, discover details.

Cons: It can be tiring, especially in hot weather or if you have already walked a lot in the historic center.

By Bicycle

Many Romans explore EUR by bike. The wide boulevards and cycling paths make the neighborhood bike-friendly.

Where to rent: Bike-sharing services like Lime and Dott offer electric-assist bikes via app. Cost: approximately 1 euro to unlock + 0.20 euros/minute.

Advantages: Cover greater distances without getting tired, maintain the freedom to explore, experience the neighborhood like a local.

By Electric Scooter

Lime, Dott and Bird electric scooters are available in EUR. They work like bike sharing: download the app, locate the nearest scooter, unlock and go.

Costs: Approximately 1 euro to unlock + 0.25 euros/minute. For one hour you pay around 16 euros.

Note: Respect the rules, do not exceed 20 km/h, do not ride scooters on sidewalks. Fines are steep.

By Local Bus (Line 765)

If the distances seem too far to walk, use line 765, which runs the entire length of EUR stopping at the main points. It is perfect for moving quickly from one attraction to another without tiring yourself out.

Google Maps

Google Maps works excellently for public transport in Rome. It tells you which metro or bus to take, how far to walk and estimated times. Very reliable for navigating EUR and finding landmarks.

Citymapper

Another excellent app for getting around Rome. It compares metro, bus, taxi, bike sharing and walking, suggesting the best option by time or cost. Particularly useful for optimizing your travel around the city.

Taxis and Private Hire

FreeNow (formerly MyTaxi): App for hailing official taxis. Card payment, automatic receipt, no surprise charges.

Uber: Available in Rome but with limitations. Mainly offers Uber Black (chauffeur-driven private hire cars), more expensive than regular taxis.

ItTaxi: Italian app for booking taxis. Works well and covers many Rome taxis.

If you are staying in Rome for more than 2-3 days, ATAC tourist passes are very good value:

• 24 hours: 7 euros (you break even after 5 trips)
• 48 hours: 12.50 euros
• 72 hours: 18 euros

Unlimited use of metro, bus, tram, Roma-Lido. Do NOT include regional trains to Fiumicino.

BIRG (Daily Regional Integrated Ticket)

Costs 13 euros and includes EVERYTHING: metro, bus, tram, regional trains (including Fiumicino and Ostia). Valid until midnight on the day of validation.

When it makes sense: If in one day you need to make multiple trips including trains (example: Fiumicino-EUR-Center-Ostia Antica-EUR).

Roma Pass

The Roma Pass includes unlimited transportation plus museum admissions. Available in 48 and 72-hour versions (38.50 and 62 euros). Worth it if you are visiting the city intensively including expensive museums such as the Colosseum and Vatican Museums.

Walk When Possible

Some distances in Rome look long on the map but are pleasant on foot. From EUR Fermi to the Square Colosseum is a 10-minute walk; from the Square Colosseum to the lake another 15 minutes. You save on tickets and enjoy the neighborhood.
