Important Limitations
MiTuCasa policies include certain coverage limits that are important to understand before subscription.
Purpose of travel (MiTuCasa Tourist)
MiTuCasa Tourist insurance coverage is valid exclusively for trips undertaken for tourist and leisure purposes. All trips undertaken for work, study, professional training, volunteering, missions or any purpose other than tourism are excluded from coverage. The Insured forfeits the right to compensation if the claim occurs during a non-tourist trip.
Common General Limits
Advised-against and high-risk countries
The insurance is NOT operative for trips to countries, regions or areas:
- For which the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Crisis Unit - www.viaggiaresicuri.it) has advised against traveling or staying
- For which competent government authorities have issued do-not-travel advisories
- In a state of declared or de facto war
- Subject to armed conflicts, civil wars, insurrections or uprisings
- With extreme deterioration of public security
Insured's obligation:
Before departure, it is mandatory to consult the www.viaggiaresicuri.it website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Traveling to advised-against destinations results in the immediate forfeiture of all insurance coverage rights, with no obligation to refund the premium paid.
Maximum duration of stay abroad (MiTuCasa Tourist)
MiTuCasa Tourist insurance coverage is valid exclusively for trips and stays abroad not exceeding 30 consecutive days. Any claim occurring after the thirtieth day will not be covered by the policy.
Minimum distance from home (MiTuCasa Tourist)
The MiTuCasa Tourist guarantee applies exclusively to trips taking place more than 100 km from the Insured's place of residence or habitual domicile. Claims occurring within this radius are not covered by the policy.
Continuous stay abroad (MiTuCasa Tourist)
Maximum 30 consecutive days abroad. You are not insured for claims occurring after 30 days.
Age limits
MiTuCasa Insurance: Coverage is available exclusively to persons aged between 21 and 60 years (inclusive) at the time of subscription. The policy terminates automatically at the end of the booked stay, regardless of the age reached during the stay itself.
MiTuCasa Tourist: Coverage is available exclusively to persons aged between 21 and 60 years (inclusive) at the time of subscription. The policy terminates automatically when the Insured reaches their sixty-first birthday.
Subscription restrictions
You cannot subscribe if:
- The trip or stay has already begun
- You want to extend an already insured trip
- You want to increase the limits of an existing policy
- The territorial extension does not cover all destinations
Cash payments
Abroad: Maximum 1,000 in cash for medical expenses. Beyond that: bank transfer, card, or advance from assistance.
In Italy: Italian legal cash limits apply.

Catastrophe Limit for Terrorism
If you are involved in a terrorist act together with other insured persons, the overall limit is 10 million per event. If this is insufficient, reimbursements will be reduced proportionally.

MiTuCasa Tourist covers THE ENTIRE WORLD, including the United States, Canada and all other countries, with only the specific geographic exclusions listed below.

- All other countries worldwide

IMPORTANT: Before every trip it is mandatory to consult the official travel advisory portal of your country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The insurance does NOT apply to countries or areas for which the following has been issued:
- "Travel is not recommended"
- "Travel to this country is advised against except in cases of necessity"
- Any other do-not-travel advisory issued by governmental authorities
Traveling to advised-against areas results in total forfeiture of insurance coverage.

Countries with high-risk situations:
All countries in a state of war and all countries for which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (of your country of residence) has issued a travel advisory are excluded. For Italy: www.viaggiaresicuri.it
Warning - Situation may change:
The security situation in countries around the world changes constantly. A country that is safe today may become high-risk tomorrow due to sudden events (coups, wars, violent protests, terrorism). It is your sole responsibility to verify the situation BEFORE each trip. MiTuCasa cannot guarantee that this list is always updated in real time. See the "Destination Risk Assessment" section for more details.
Scope of Validity - Tourist Travel Only
MiTuCasa Tourist is valid exclusively for trips for tourist purposes. The territorial scope indicated applies only to stays and travel undertaken for tourism and leisure. Any trip undertaken for work, study, training or other non-tourist purposes is not covered by this policy.
Note: MiTuCasa Tourist also applies in Italy for claims in transit (travel) and trip segments between the policy start and end dates.
Destination Risk Assessment - MiTuCasa Tourist
WARNING: Insured's Responsibility
It is the sole responsibility of the Insured to verify the security situation at the destination before departure and during the stay.
MiTuCasa assesses each claim based on the actual security conditions at the time of the event. Coverage may be partially reduced, fully denied or fully operative based on the assessment of the situation.
Events that Exclude or Limit Insurance Coverage
MiTuCasa Tourist insurance coverage is suspended, reduced or denied for claims occurring in countries, regions, provinces, cities or neighborhoods that, at the time of travel or in the preceding 12 months, were affected by one or more of the following events:
Extremely Serious Events - Total Exclusion (0% reimbursement)
No insurance coverage for claims in areas affected by:
- Declared or de facto war (armed conflict between states or factions)
- Civil war (internal armed conflict with prolonged fighting)
- Coup d'etat (attempted or successful overthrow of the government)
- Armed insurrection (popular uprising with use of firearms or explosives)
- Violent revolution (violent overthrow of the established order)
- Mass terrorism (attacks with 10 or more victims)
- Genocide or ethnic cleansing (systematic violence against ethnic or religious groups)
- National state of emergency for reasons of internal security or conflict
- Martial law (suspension of civil liberties and military control)
- Military dictatorship established by force
- Mandatory evacuation ordered by government authorities
- Total border closure for security reasons
- Foreign military occupation (invasion, forced annexation)
- Bombing (aerial, missile, artillery)
- Siege (military blockade of a city or region)
Total exclusion period: minimum 12 consecutive months from the complete and definitive cessation of the event.
Serious Events - Exclusion or Severe Reduction (0-30% reimbursement)
MiTuCasa may fully deny or reduce by 70-100% the indemnity for claims in areas affected by:
- Violent riots with casualties (deaths or serious injuries), widespread looting, arson
- Popular uprisings with prolonged clashes with law enforcement (more than 3 consecutive days)
- Mass violent protests (more than 10,000 people) using improvised weapons, Molotov cocktails, explosives
- Total blockades of airports, ports, stations, borders for security reasons
- Curfew imposed by authorities to contain unrest
- Local/regional state of emergency due to public disorder
- Violent suppression of protests by law enforcement (more than 10 injured)
- Ethnic or religious clashes with casualties
- Terrorist attacks (fewer than 10 victims but with serious injuries)
- Mass kidnappings or widespread abductions
- Collapse of institutions (total absence of functioning government)
- Widespread anarchy (absence of public order control)
- Epidemic with lockdown (mandatory quarantine, closed borders)
- Serious natural disasters with state of emergency (earthquakes >6.0, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions)
- Absolute travel advisory issued by the foreign ministries of at least 3 western countries
Severe limitation period: 12 months from the end of the event or revocation of the state of emergency.
Moderate Events - Moderate Reduction (50% reimbursement)
MiTuCasa may reduce by up to 50% the indemnity for claims in areas affected by:
- Large-scale peaceful demonstrations (more than 50,000 people) with prolonged road blockades
- National general strikes with total shutdown of public transport, hospitals and essential services
- Protests with tensions (object throwing, police charges) but without serious casualties
- Localized unrest in specific neighborhoods or city areas
- Occupation of public buildings (parliaments, embassies, airports)
- Acute political tensions (disputed elections, reported electoral fraud)
- Credible terrorist threats (maximum alert without an actual attack)
- Widespread organized crime with frequent violent incidents
- Sporadic kidnappings of foreigners or tourists
- Isolated looting or mass theft from stores
- Prolonged blackouts (over 48h) due to sabotage or systemic failures
- Severe shortages of food, water or fuel with social tensions
- Partial travel advisory (only certain areas of the country)
Moderate limitation period: 12 months from the end of the event.
Claims Assessment Procedure
In the event of a compensation claim, MiTuCasa carries out an in-depth assessment that includes:
1. Official Sources Verification
- Consultation of travel advisories from the Foreign Ministries of Italy, USA, UK, Germany and France
- Review of UN, NATO and European Union communications
- Analysis of reports from international NGOs (Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch)
2. Media Sources Verification
- Search of international press agencies: ANSA, Reuters, AFP, Associated Press
- Consultation of BBC News, CNN International, Al Jazeera
- Wikipedia review for recent historical event timelines
- Google News search for the preceding 12-month period
3. Timeline Analysis
- Verification of whether the event occurred in the 12 months prior to the trip
- Check whether the situation was known and documented before departure
- Assessment of whether the Insured could reasonably have been aware of the risk
4. Final Decision
MiTuCasa reserves the unquestionable right to:
- Deny compensation entirely (0%) if the area was notoriously at extreme risk
- Reduce the indemnity by 70-100% for known serious events
- Reduce the indemnity by 50% for documented moderate events
- Pay full reimbursement (100%) if the area was safe and the event was unforeseeable
- Request additional documentation to verify circumstances and causal link
The decision is communicated in writing within 30 days of receipt of the complete claim.
Insured's Responsibilities and Obligations
IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INSURED to obtain information on the security situation at the destination. Ignorance or failure to check does NOT exempt from responsibility.

During the Stay - Obligations
- Continuously monitor the local situation
- Follow the guidance of local authorities and the embassy
- Avoid areas with demonstrations, protests or gatherings
- If the situation worsens: immediately contact MiTuCasa and consider early return
IMPORTANT: Knowingly traveling to areas with known risks results in the total forfeiture of the right to compensation. You cannot claim ignorance or failure to obtain information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if my destination is safe?
A: Follow the 3 steps listed above. If even ONE foreign ministry advises against the trip, do NOT travel.
Q: If I travel and THEN a coup occurs, am I covered?
A: If the event is completely unforeseeable and sudden, YES. If there were known tensions, MiTuCasa will assess on a case-by-case basis.
Q: How long after an uprising can I safely travel?
A: At least 12 consecutive months WITHOUT events. Always verify official sources before departure.
Q: If I find no recent news, am I covered?
A: Yes, if you carried out diligent research and the situation was genuinely calm.
What are my obligations?
When subscribing
Obligation to provide truthful, accurate and complete declarations.
False declarations may result in loss of the right to compensation and termination of the insurance policy (Arts. 1892, 1893, 1894 of the Italian Civil Code).
You may not:
- Subscribe to other similar policies to increase coverage limits
- Insure a trip or stay that has already begun
- Extend an already insured trip with another insurer
- Indicate a territorial extension that does not cover all destinations
Destination verification:
- Mandatory consultation of the Viaggiare Sicuri portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.viaggiaresicuri.it) before each trip
- Do not travel to destinations for which a travel advisory has been issued
- Check for updates also during the stay in case of any new risk situations
Mandatory destination verification (MiTuCasa Tourist)
Before each trip you are REQUIRED to:
- Consult the Foreign Ministry of your country for travel advisories
- Search for news on events in the last 12 months (protests, riots, coups, terrorism)
- Verify that there have been no serious events that make the destination high-risk
- Use common sense: if the area is notoriously dangerous - do NOT travel
Traveling to areas with known risks = total forfeiture of the right to compensation. See the "Destination Risk Assessment" section for full details.
During the policy term
Obligation to notify changes that increase the risk. Failure to do so may result in loss of the right to compensation (Art. 1898 of the Italian Civil Code).
In the event of a claim
You must:
- Notify in writing of the existence of other insurance policies (Art. 1910 of the Italian Civil Code)
- Comply with claim reporting deadlines
- Contact assistance before incurring expenses (except where impossible)
- Retain all documentation

- Monthly: automatic renewal until cancellation

End: 24:00 on the last day of the period or the cancellation date
How can I cancel the policy?
Cancellation after a claim
You may cancel within 60 days of payment or rejection of a claim, with 30 days' notice. Refund of the unused portion of the premium (net of taxes).
MiTuCasa may also cancel with the same notice period.
Cancellation of MiTuCasa Tourist (Monthly)
Procedure:
- The policy may be cancelled after at least one month from the activation date
- The Insured is required to pay at least two monthly installments (activation month + one subsequent month)
- 30 days' notice before the end of the second month
- Notification by email to [email protected]
- No penalty after the mandatory minimum period
Example: policy activated on January 1st, cancellation possible from March 1st with notice by January 31st.
Right of Withdrawal (online/telephone purchases only)
You may withdraw within 14 days of conclusion of the contract, provided no claim has occurred. Send notification by registered mail with return receipt or certified email (PEC).
